The climate crisis presents an unprecedented set of challenges for the international human rights framework. Rising seas threaten to wipe out entire communities. Violent natural disasters directly threaten the lives of the most vulnerable populations worldwide. Multinational corporations – the biggest drivers of climate change – are traditionally seen as beyond its reach.
The task of this panel is daunting. Not only will it sketch out the relationship between human rights law and theclimate crisis, but it will look to the opportunities that this complex link presents. Holding corporations andindividuals accountable for their actions in threatening humanity as a whole may result in a revolution in humanrights law.
